Vajrayogini Stupa at Kechara Forest Retreat

Completed in July 2014, the 15-ft Vajrayogini Stupa at Kechara Forest Retreat took 3-4 months to construct, design and consecrate.

Vajrayogini, is a representation of complete Buddhahood in female form, and her heaven was chosen as the name of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche‘s Buddhist organization, Kechara.

Back in May 2012, H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche published a blog post called “Get Involved with Vajrayogini Stupa at Kechara Forest Retreat“. The blog post invited the public to send in their (and their loved ones) hair or nails to be inserted into the holy stupa. Along with this, they were also invited to send in photos of their loved ones, and personal precious items like jewellery or heirlooms, or the like. In response, Kechara received thousands of packages from all of the world within a few weeks.

A special puja called the Ruchok was then done to bless the items received. Ruchok puja is a highly effective way to bless those we love and those we want to benefit. Do read more about the puja and benefits here.

The incredible part for those who responded to His Eminence’s blog post, is that the blessing doesn’t stop after the Ruchok puja is performed. Whenever acts of worship are done towards the stupa, everyone living and passed on who have their hair/nails inside will be blessed for better rebirths and re-connecting with their spiritual paths.

The public was also invited to sponsor blessed items such as Dharma texts, wealth vases, chakras etc. to be placed inside the stupa. As it is considered an offering, it will continuously create a lot of merit for the sponsor.

In addition to the items inserted above, the Vajrayogini Stupa contains billions of Buddha images, mantras, and holy items from High Lamas, enshrined to bless all who cross paths with this holy stupa, including:

  • The robes of H.H. Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang
  • The robes of H.H. Kyabje Trijang Chocktrul Rinpoche
  • The rilbu (holy pills) of H.H. Trijang Rinpoche
  • Blessed khata from H.E. Lakar Rinpoche
  • Robes and blessed powder from H.E. Sherab Rinpoche
  • Lama Tsongkhapa tsa tsas and images

There are various levels within the stupa, and the various items above were grouped, consecrated and inserted within each level. Throughout this process, monks from Gaden Monastery oversaw and performed the respective pujas necessary until completion.

Kechara’s Vajrayogini Stupa is designed in the style of the Stupa of Enlightenment (Jangchub Chorten) which celebrates Buddha’s defeat over the forces of ignorance and symbolises his enlightenment under the bodhi tree in Bodhgaya. It is traditionally constructed in strict accordance to scriptural instructions – from the dimensions of every step to the traditional carvings that adorn the stupa – and consecrated by qualified monks from Gaden Monastery.

As a spiritual monument symbolising the stainless enlightened mind of a Buddha and the path to enlightenment, the Vajrayogini Stupa will continue to bless the land and the beings living on the land (and surrounding lands) for many generations to come.
