RM2 Feeds A Hungry Bird

A Little CHANGE Can Save Another Life

RM2 may not get us far these days but it will definitely transform the life of a bird that only knew the chaos inside dirty, overcrowded cages.

A little CHANGE provides one nutritious and healthy meal of fresh vegetables, millet snacks and delicious seeds for a bird.

A little CHANGE sets an example for our children to be caring, generous and kind.

A little CHANGE preserves our humanity through helping those with no voice.

Animals have been friends to man; it is now time for us to be their friend and provide them a better quality of life.

A Bit of History

Our Spiritual Advisor H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche has been rescuing animals since he was a young child in the USA. His mission to save animals has continued in Malaysia on a larger scale, beginning with the rescue of Drolkar, a sulphur-crested cockatoo, to whom Rinpoche made a promise to find her a good home.

All big dreams start with a single step and Drolkar’s rescue in 2008 marked the start of a tireless effort to set up an animal sanctuary that will become a haven for unwanted, abused and abandoned animals. Beginning with a makeshift aviary in the front yard of Rinpoche’s home, the first proper aviary was built in 2009 and was home to Drolkar, her new friend Dechog, and a group of inquisitive sun conures.

When I buy birds or any other animals, I do not see them as pets; they are not for my pleasure or entertainment. Instead I try to give them the best food, environment and care that I can provide. I plant seeds in their mindstream by reciting mantras and blowing on them. That is the best I can do for them while they are in the animal realm. ~ Tsem Rinpoche

In October 2013, Rinpoche fulfilled his promise to Drolkar with the completion of the aviary in Kechara Forest Retreat. Today, the aviary at Kechara Forest Retreat is home to the birds that nobody wanted:

  • 2 African Greys
  • 4 Sulphur-crested Cockatoos
  • 12 Cockatiels
  • 3 Lovebirds
  • 1 Pigeon
  • 21 Budgies
  • 2 tortoises
  • 5 Sugarcanes

How to Contribute?

Not everyone has the ability to save our fellow earthlings the way Rinpoche does. However, that should not hinder us from taking baby-steps to making a difference to these animals. Support our cause by contributing RM2 to feed a hungry bird.

Your support will create a food fund that will be used to purchase:

Who We Are

Jace Chong

Having met her spiritual guide, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche a few years back, Jace was inspired to follow his footsteps in living a meaningful life. Prior to joining Kechara as a production assistant and film editor, Jace worked for Malaysian TV stations such as RTM, TV3 and NTV as well as various international TV projects.

Jace has been rescuing injured animals since 2012 and today, she has about 30 dogs and cats as well as 48 birds in her care. Her journey of saving animals has taught her about true kindness and compassion. She is passionate about raising awareness of the suffering that animals go through in order to encourage others to relieve their pain by offering them kindness. This in turn opens up the doors of our hearts to true happiness through helping those in need.

Phng Li Kheng

Li Kheng was born and grew up in Malaysia before leaving to pursue her Bachelor of Science Degree at Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland. After graduating with high honours, Li Kheng worked in Hong Kong and Shanghai before returning home to Malaysia. Today, Li Kheng is the Green Project Manager at Kechara Forest Retreat where she has discovered her passion and connection to Nature. She is now a strong advocate of transforming environmental awareness into actions that preserve, protect and revive the vitality of Nature.

KB Thapa

KB came to Malaysia from Nepal 12 years ago and had the good fortune to meet and work for Rinpoche. He takes care of all the animals that Rinpoche has rescued over the years – dogs, fishes and birds. KB truly loves animals and is very sensitive to their needs. He always senses when one of the animals in his care is about to fall ill and on several occasions, KB has saved an animal’s life due to early detection of a serious illness.

One Response to RM2 Feeds A Hungry Bird

  1. Li Kheng on Dec 18, 2015 at 3:10 pm

Sometime in early November 2015, my kind Guru, Tsem Rinpoche, gave Jace, KB and me the opportunity to contribute to the lives of the birds that nobody wanted. They are the residents of the aviary at Kechara Forest Retreat.

Jace and KB are animal lovers and connect naturally to them. These are individuals whom I have seen time and again put the welfare of the animals before themselves. Meanwhile, I am a believer of a conscious community as the solution of creating harmony in the beautiful diversity of our Earth.

You know those moment that you see an animal in need at the side of the road and wished you could help but eventually stepped on the accelerator and drove away because you did not have the place our resources for a sustainable rescue?

Well, Jace and KB are those who get out of the car to rescue the animals and eventually heal them to better physical and emotional health.

So, this campaign offers a solution to those who want to help but may not be able to at this moment to contribute what they can. With a little change of RM2.00, you can treat a bird to a healthy and wholesome meal of seeds, millet and fresh vegetables and fruits.

Through this campaign, you no longer have to “drive away”.
Take this opportunity to celebrate the spirit of giving this Christmas.
