Orientation Tour of KFR

On Monday 22 October 2012, all Liaisons and a few invited guests were given a tour of the latest developments at the Kechara Forest Retreat, which was organised by Tsem Ladrang.

Many preparations were done the day before by the Ladrang staff for this event. Rinpoche had gone out to buy a lot of things for KFR, including raincoats, daybeds, chairs, tables, canopies and tents for the people who will be working in KFR. Rinpoche wanted to ensure that the working environment is as comfortable as possible for the people.

At 4.00pm, everyone arrived at the main entrance of KFR, all ready to go in their boots. The tour was guided by Liaison JP Thong who has been closely involved with the work at KFR. First, JP showed them the land clearing at the entrance where the main temple complex, known as the Shakyamuni World Peace Hall would be and the new road that has already been carved out leading into the land. As they walked into the land, everyone was breath taken by the vastness of the land and could visualize the temple that would serve many in the future.

Before they reached the temporary cabin area, JP took the group to the new Ladrang site on top of the hill at the front. The whole hill was cleared and flattened at the top. All the visitors were in awe when they got to the top as the view was breathtaking! It overlooks the mountain range and below the valley, there are a few bodies of water.

JP then showed the visitors a new service road on the other side of the middle hill where there are a lot of fruit trees. This road will be used by the tractors and heavy machineries to construct the KFR complex. From the service road, they could also see the site where Kechara Village will be built.

They then proceeded to the Kechara Village land where they were showed the location for the organic vegetable garden is, the site for Rinpoche’s residence and the PO’s working site. From there, they made their way to the cabins where Kechara Oasis had already prepared dinner for the visitors.

While some savoured their dinner, groups of people were brought into the cabin area to see the living areas for the men and ladies. The ladies were staying in the PO cabin while the men were staying in tents that were set up in front of Rinpoche’s cabin.

At 8.30pm, Rinpoche made prayers and land god offerings and began the audience. Rinpoche welcomed the guests to KFR and explained the plans for KFR and KV to them. Rinpoche also asked them to get involved with the project in whichever way they can. Rinpoche was his usual self where he joked a lot with the guests and gave some gifts to them. At the end of the night, everyone understood that Kechara Forest Retreat and Kechara Village are very important to all Kecharians as these will be places where one can have peace of mind.

The visitors have arrived at the entrance of KFR. They all came prepared with their shiny yellow boots!

What are they looking at? It is the hillock where a huge Lama Tsongkapa statue would be in the future.

Walking on the new road leading into the land. It is far wider than the existing road.

Some were seen taking notes on the tour. This will help them in explaining to friends and family about our KFR project.

Hiking up the hill to the site of the future Ladrang.

They really look like ants…..

Finally, they are up at the top of the hill. There are lots of greens around.

The view of the mountain from the top of the Ladrang hill. It looks so majestic!

Another view from the Ladrang hill where we can see the lakes and the existing cabin area. Not forgetting the iconic tree. What a perfect location for Ladrang.

Robbert Losecaat (the landscape architect for KFR) looking at the land where the existing cabin area would be expanded

The visitors are now standing at the site where the expansion of the existing cabin areas would be. There will be more cabins brought in so that more people can work here and to bring the energy to KFR.

Moh Mei, Pastor Susan and Master Loo starting a fire at the fire pit. The smoke from the fire will prevent the mosquitoes and other insects from coming around the cabin area.
