Lama Tsongkhapa Sadhana Practice: May 2014

Jun 10, 2014 | Views: 243

On the weekend of 30 & 31 May 2014, Kechara Forest Retreat hosted a Lama Tsongkhapa Sadhana Practice session. This retreat provides an environment for committed practitioners to strengthen their spiritual practice over two days and one night. A focused atmosphere, a discipline of silence and proper guidance from experienced Pastors throughout the sessions allows participants to benefit greatly over a short period of time.

Sadhana practice in session

According to Tibetan Buddhist history, Lama Tsongkhapa (1357 – 1419) was a Buddhist scholar and saint who brought the teachings together during a time when Buddhism had degenerated in Tibet.

Lama Tsongkhapa’s teachings became the basis for the establishment of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism. He also founded Gaden Monastery in Tibet. For a full transcript of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings on Lama Tsongkhapa’s practice, please click here.

A talk was given in Kechara House a week earlier to share the benefits of Tsongkhapa’s practice with participants, yet many more who were keen also attended. The talk gave participants a good idea of what to expect during the sadhana practice session. Hence, in the early hours of 30 May, every participant arrived with the proper motivation.

Light exercises was introduced between sadhana sessions so that participants could stretch their body after hours of sitting in prayer. Arrangements were also made for participants to do some cleaning around Wisdom Hall. Cleaning a holy place is a way to develop spiritual experience and to clear the dust in our mind.

Day 2 began with a guided meditation session in front of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s first cabin amidst the serene, misty surroundings.

A salute to Mrs Ooi, a special lady with physical challenges who was actively involved during the cleaning – never for a second taking her practice lightly.

Mrs Ooi was very focused and determined, showing that old age is not a hindrance to dharma practice

As the retreat came to an end, everyone was glad to share their experience and feedback to the Pastors moderating the sessions.
