Kuen Cheng Alumni visits KFR

Kechara Forest Retreat is getting more visitors during weekends and sometimes even weekdays! We recently welcomed a wonderful mix of 34 adults and children from the Kuen Cheng Alumni on 1 June 2014.

Everyone gathered in front of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s first cabin while Pastor Chia explained how to make a khata offering there.

Animal Liberation is one of Kechara’s activities that promote compassion towards all living beings. It is a popular family activity and an educational one for the young. Liberating animals help us develop the nature of not harming others and the awareness of living in harmony with every living being in this world. It is His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s hope to also reduce the attachment to eating meat for the sake of gastronomic pleasure.

At the next stop on Manjushri Hill, everyone had the chance to enjoy the breathtaking views of the surroundings atop the hill. They were also taught to recite “Om Ah Ra Pa Tsa Na Dhi’ and were explained the benefits of the Manjushri’s mantra.

Next, they visited the herb garden where a large variety of herbs from various plant families are cultivated. Pastor Chia plucked a leaf or two for visitors to sample the practical uses of some herbs while Julia explained more about contributing towards planting trees. They were also given an opportunity to do some planting which the children enjoyed.

As the sun climbed high over the horizon, it was time to go indoors to Wisdom Hall to continue with other activities such as pastor blessings, meditation and dharma shopping.
