Kechara Forest Retreat Day Tour: 14 September 2014

A good way to spend a pleasant weekend away from Kuala Lumpur is to visit the Kechara Forest Retreat in Bentong, Pahang. Many people have heard of the Kechara Forest Retreat and its attractions, and some have visited to see for themselves the vision of H. E. Tsem Rinpoche as part of the regularly scheduled day tours.

On 14 September 2014, 23 tour participants from different walks of life gathered at the meeting point, Kechara House, on time despite a heavy downpour at dawn in the Klang Valley.

At 7:30am, the guests gathered at the main prayer hall where Pastor Adeline Woon briefly explained the details of the Kechara Forest Retreat and the Gelug lineage of Tibetan Buddhism to which Kechara House belongs.

After the briefing, everyone offered a khata to His Eminence’s throne. A khata is a piece of silk cloth that represents one’s offering of best wishes to His Eminence.

The guests were fascinated by His Eminence’s royal status and were eager to learn more about His Eminence’s extraordinary journey across America on the story board in Kechara Gallery.

The weather became beautiful with clear skies and cool temperatures as we started our journey to the Kechara Forest Retreat. As we arrived, some trees and plants were flowering and the air was refreshing.

The first stop was His Eminence’s cabin – an important landmark in the Kechara Forest Retreat. Pastor Adeline explained the history and significance of this cabin, how it represents His Eminence’s blessings and the many hours of hard work and effort in building Phase One of Kechara Forest Retreat.

Explaining the history of Tsem Rinpoche’s original cabin.

Next up was an Animal Liberation event for the guests and sponsors behind the cabin. This is considered an auspicious event because the act of protecting and saving lives is one of the main causes for one’s long life and stable health.

Children from the tour group were excited by the birds in the cage and it was an unforgettable experience for them when the birds were liberated.

All guests took part in the prayer for the birds prior to releasing them into nature.

Next, the group slowly trekked up Manjushri Hill, a favourite spot for visitors.

Groups of 10 circumambulated the majestic 4-armed Manjushri statue to gain His blessings while reciting His mantra “Om Ah Ra Ba Tsa Na Dhi”.

As the weather was very pleasant, the guests were given a guided tour of the Aviary and Herb Garden. It was a delight for everyone to be allowed inside the Aviary, up close with the animals.

The half-covered roof structure of the Aviary was constructed to meet the specific requirements for the birds’ comfort and well-being.

Kechara volunteer, Alice Tay, took a picture with her sisters inside the Aviary.

The next stop was the Herb Garden where Pastor Chia was on hand to receive the guests.

After a tour of the Herb Garden, the group was ushered into Wisdom Hall for Pastors Blessings and Meditation.

The guests took turns to offer khatas to His Eminence’s throne and quietly sat down for the Pastor Blessing ceremony.

The final activity for the Kechara Forest Retreat tour was a brief introduction of Dukkar Apartments, named after Buddha Dukkar who is also known as White Umbrella.

The tour ended with a video clip of His Eminence’s vision of Medicine Buddha Hill and the Kechara Forest Retreat Phase Two.
