Groundbreaking news at KFR!

October 3rd was a historic day for Kechara as earthworks officially began at the Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR). On this auspicious morning, a land blessing puja was conducted by Kechara’s Puja team, and attended by representatives of the Liaisons Council and the KFR team. These prayers were to propitiate the blessings of the Buddhas as well as making offerings to the local land deities.

The land deities have been present in that land much longer than ourselves. As we are building on that land, we make offerings out of respect to them and for them to be at peace with our development which will benefit many others. The land deities are not enlightened so we make offerings to them but we do not take refuge in them. The prayers were also for clearing obstacles as we begin to work on this project.

After the puja, the pastors led the group from the cabin area to the front of the land where the excavation machines were waiting. During the walk, the group chanted Setrap mantras to request for Setrap’s help to clear obstacles.

Dato’ Eric Tan, one of Rinpoche’s long time students, then arrived with his sons, Colin and Edwin, to witness the historic moment when the excavator first digs into the land. It was really a joyous moment for all who were present at the event. It was particularly meaningful for Datuk May Phng, who has been passionately, relentlessly and tirelessly working on this project from its inception.

While the machines rumbled away, the group took the opportunity to take photos to commemorate the happy occasion.

View the photos below for glimpses of the event.
