Felix, Albert & Eric’s Retreat

Kechara Forest Retreat was conceptualised by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche as the heart of the Kechara organisation. The motivation behind every building erected, flower planted, utility installed etc is to support the spiritual practice for all who walk through our gates.

As advised by His Eminence, 3 Kechara Paradise full-time staff requested for leave in order to engage in a Lama Tsongkhapa retreat together. They adhered to the strict retreat diet, and completed 15,000 Migtzema mantras individually in their 4 day, 3 night retreat.

According to Tibetan Buddhist history, Lama Tsongkhapa (1357 – 1419) was a Buddhist scholar and saint who brought the teachings together during a time when Buddhism had degenerated in Tibet.

Lama Tsongkhapa’s teachings became the basis for the establishment of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism. He also founded Gaden Monastery in Tibet. For a full transcript of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings on Lama Tsongkhapa’s practice, please click here.

There is a multitude of benefits in engaging in a Lama Tsongkhapa retreat, which includes:

  • Increasing one’s life
  • Creating a connection with Maitreya Buddha, and conditions to be His disciple
  • Creating the conditions to take rebirth in Tushita, or make a strong link to be born there eventually
  • Pacifying the 3 types of obstacles: outer, inner and secret
  • Purifying our impurities; important to help us break our negative habits, change our laziness, avoid diseases, anger and repercussions
  • Receiving attainments: Attaining realizations on the stages of the path and the Seven Wisdoms (great, clear, quick, profound, knowledge, spiritual debate, composing Dharma books)

On the basis of pacifying our negativity and obstacles, and increasing our lifespan, merit, compassion, wisdom and spiritual power, if we rely upon this practice we shall gain all the realizations of Sutra and Tantra easily, eventually attaining the states of Union of no more learning or Buddhahood.

May Kechara Forest Retreat continue to support the spiritual practice for all.

“I feel very fortunate to be able to complete the Lama Tsongkhapa retreat with my fellow colleagues. What made it extra special was that we did it within the forest. It’s very quiet, and serene. When you wake up, you don’t wake up to the noise of the bustling city. Instead, you wake up feeling peaceful and are greeted by the birds and sounds of nature. In a place like this you can put your work-related stress aside. Things that bother you, when you are here you will feel that it’s not so important.

At the beginning of the retreat, I remember negative thoughts arising in my mind. However, I remember that it’s my negative karma being purified and that gives the strength to continue. Towards the end, that mental lethargic feeling lessened a lot.

After completing the retreat, we walked around the land to throw blessed rice. I strongly feel that as more people do retreats at KFR, the energy created on this land will be very powerful. People here are not into politics, fighting, playing ego games etc, but it’s a place for us to practice the Dharma. We are tapping into the Buddha nature within us.”
